HCG Weight Loss

Q: Can I complete the HCG protocol if I am a vegetarian or vegan?
A: Yes.

Q: Can I complete the HCG protocol if I am lactose intolerant?
A: Yes.

Q: How much salt would you recommend using?
A: There is no restriction on the use of salt. On the other hand, an increase in salt can be one of the most common causes for inconsistencies in weight, due to water retention.

Q: The diet states that tap water is not preferred. Why?
A: Tap water contains chlorine, which affects the thyroid.

Q: Why do I "gorge" for the first 3 days of the protocol?
A: It takes 3 days for HCG to completely enter your system; gorging helps with hunger feelings while on the program.

Q: What are the best foods on which to gorge?
A: High fat calorie foods such as full fat dairy products, nuts, oils, avocados, etc.

Q: Are frozen veggies okay instead of fresh?
A: Fresh vegetables are preferred, but frozen vegetables will work.

Q: May I eat pickles with any meal on the diet?
A: Cucumbers and vinegar are on the protocol so pickles are permitted. If you find that you are not losing weight, stop eating the pickles.

Q: What can I eat while I'm completing the HCG protocol?
A: The complete diet is covered in the initial orientation. However, here is a basic overview:

* Drink two quarts of water each day.
* Breakfast: herbal teas, black teas, or coffee.
* Lunch/dinner: 500 calories of food each day from the following: 100 grams of beef, veal, chicken, white fish, lobster, shrimp, or tuna. Two vegetables from the approved list with each meal (includes broccoli, cabbage, cucumbers, green beans, zucchini, tomatoes, and others). One fruit from the approved list with each meal (includes apple, orange, strawberries, grapefruit, peach, apricot, cherries, and others). In place of fruit, 3/4 cup of non-fat yogurt can be eaten once per day. Finally, one serving of crackers or bread sticks from the approved list with each meal.

Q: Won't I starve if I only consume 500 calories per day?
A: No. Because HCG releases your fat reserves, your body begins to "consume" the fat, which acts as a source of energy in place of food. In essence, you burn about one pound of fat each day (one pound is 3,500 calories). Therefore, your total consumption each day will be about 4,000 calories - 500 from food and 3,500 from fat. That is why most patients do not experience extreme hunger while using HCG.

Q: Will I lose exactly one pound every day while on the program?
A: No. Most patients on the 23-day program tend to lose about 20-25 pounds; however, the weight loss does not always happen evenly over 23-day period. Some patients may notice a "lull" or a span of a few days where little to no weight loss occurs. Some patients often notice quick weight loss after a "lull" period.

Q: If I only want to lose 10-15 lbs. can I still complete the program?
A: We do not recommend it. If you only need to lose a small amount of weight, there aren't as many "abnormal fat reserves" available and the hunger experienced throughout the program may be intense. However, we have had several patients participate who only needed to lose 15 pounds.

Q: Can I complete the protocol if I am nursing a baby?
A: No, when you are nursing you produce prolactin, which interferes with HCG.

Q: Why are the injections "intramuscular"?
A: The HCG needs to be metabolized in the muscle.

Q: Why do I skip a day in the week when I am completing the 40-day protocol?
A: This prevents your body from building immunity to HCG.

Q: Can I color my hair while I'm completing the program?
A: No.

Q: Can I use Crest white strips for whitening my teeth while on HCG?
A: Yes.

Q: Can I do an "apple day" once a week to lose more weight?
A: Yes.

Q: Will the lotions and diaper creams I put on my children have an effect on me, even if I wash my hands immediately after applying?
A: The lotions and creams can have a small effect. We recommend you wear gloves to prevent penetration of any lotions or creams.

Q: Am I alright if I administered my shot on a "no-shot day" and then skipped my shot on the following day?
A: Yes, that is fine. But in the future make sure you do "6 days on, 1 day off" in that sequence.

Q: Can I go tanning while I am on the program?
A: Yes, but do not use tanning lotion or oil.

Q: Can I still complete the HCG protocol if I've had a hysterectomy?
A: Yes.

Q: How does a diabetic benefit from the program?
A: When a diabetic follows the protocol the HCG naturally stabilizes the blood sugar. We often see an overall drop in fasting blood sugar after completing the program.

Q: Can I still take my medications while on HCG?
A: Yes, as long as the medications do not interfere with the endocrine system. This will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis during your physical.

Q: How does HCG affect cholesterol levels?
A: We have seen cholesterol levels fluctuate while on the HCG program. For the majority of patients the cholesterol levels drop and improve.

Q: Can I continue using my hormone medications?
A: Dr. Simeons says all medications that interfere with the endocrine system should be avoided during the program. This can be discussed during your physical with one of our medical professionals.

Q: Will I be able to stop using my anti-diabetes medications after I complete the HCG protocol?
A: While discontinuance of diabetes medication is possible, it should not be expected as a result of the protocol. Often it depends on how long you've been diabetic, how many medications you are currently using, your fasting blood sugar levels, your blood sugar range, etc.

Q: Will HCG help my high blood pressure?
A: Many patients have experienced a decrease in blood pressure. Some patients have been able to stop taking their medications, but this should not be done without medical advice.

Q: Can I continue using my anti-depressant medications?
A: Yes.

Q: Can I continue using my anxiety medications?
A: Yes.

Q: Why does HCG interfere with Gout?
A: The HCG increases uric acid levels which may cause a severe attack.

Q: If I don't have a regular menstrual cycle will the HCG affect that?
A: Some patients have experienced changes in their menstrual cycle while on the HCG. These irregularities are resolved with the completion of the program.

Q: Should I run and exercise while completing the protocol?
A: We do not recommend strenuous exercise while completing the protocol. However, we do recommend walking and other light exercise.

Q: Why do I need to discontinue using thyroid while completing the HCG protocol?
A: The hypothalamus gland, affected by HCG, also controls the thyroid. Taking additional thyroid could cause hyperthyroidism.

Q: When women are on their menstrual cycle, why can't they receive the injections?
A: Women who are menstruating produce small amount of HCG.

Q: Will I be hungry if I don't take the injections while on my period?
A: This varies; some women report they are hungrier when on their menstrual cycle and not injecting, and many report that they are unaffected.

Q: What should I do if I get constipated?
A: Drink Dieter's Tea (Celestial Seasons brand) or licorice tea and increase fluid intake.

Q: What are the negative side effects of the HCG program?
A: Fortunately, very few negative side effects have been noticed or reported. The most frequent complaint we receive from patients is hunger.

Q: If I am really hungry while on HCG can I use an appetite suppressant? For instance, Hoodia?
A: No, a better idea is to graze on vegetables throughout the day. Choose vegetables that are approved on the protocol as "unlimited."

Q: Is cold medicine okay?
A: Yes, as long as it does not contain sugar.

You mention if very hungry to graze on vegitable that are unlimited. Which are those? I did not find any in the Simeons protocol.

Have been on oral HCG for 11 days and have literally lost 11lbs, have 30day supply and confused on whether or not I can go 30days or have to stop at 23? Any guidance sincerely appreciated.

Morgan, if you are taking homeopathic HCG drops, there is no reason for you to stop taking them while you are on your period. You should continue your drops right away.

Where do you find reputable HCG injectables (only thru a physician)?
How about reputable sublingual B-12?
There are so many suppliers on the internet these days not sure of the reliable ones.
The foods many of you have discussed i.e.… broccoli, yogurt, and some others are not on my protocol, are these from the book “Pounds and Inches”?

make sure when you look at foods others are eating they are discussing the p2 (the VLCD food) - those ones you mentioned above are allowable in p3 - mind you the yogurt would need to be sugar free... i actually get mine in ebay - i can send you the link if u like. it's 40/bottle - which lasts 43 days & myself, my mother, step father, and 4 of my friends have used it with great results...not one person i know that's got it from there has had negative results!

you can read all of 'p and i' on this site, which lists all of the allowable foods...sometimes people discuss additional foods they eat with no problems, but of course the official list is quite strict! good luck.

Hi there! I am considering trying out HCG and I want to know a few things before I dive in:
First, should I purchase the regular HCG or is homeopathic HCG just as effective?
Second, what is the best place to purchase HCG? There are so many sites online I just don't know who is reputable and who isn't.
Last, sublingual or injections? (really hoping everyone recommends sublingual since i hate needles )

Thanks for your help everyone! I'm dying to lose 40-50 pounds - have been trying for two years with minimal results. 10 pounds here and there and always gaining it back. I hope this works!

Tamaca you wrote you have only taken the injections...where did you buy the HCG and did you have to buy the needles and mixing vials separately?

You can order hcg injections for this page, which is recommended by this website:

Needles are included in the order.

I used the injections last year and the sublingual this year. I found I was hungrier on the injections and had to get the needles and everything to go with it. I opted for the drops this time around. This is my 2nd round and I am extremely happy. I didn't like shots either and the drops by mouth are easy.

Question....do you have to do phase 4 before you do a 2nd round? Originally started with over 100 pounds to lose...

lilbit
06-27-2011, 10:43 PM
you need to take at least 5 weeks off to stablize and ensure the body has completely shed all the hcg so it works well in second round...so it is 3 weeks min of phase 3.. or a total of 3 weeks once you become stable.. and two weeks to keep the weight there.. if you rush it you will risk not having rapid weight loss on second round.

plus during the time off it allows the body to tone up skin.to the weight already lost.. and you to do some toning on muslces for the aid in the skin toning.

Thanks so much for the info lilbit. I must admit that I am a little scared to introduce grains and additional natural sugar since most of my triggers are in these type of foods.

lilbit
06-28-2011, 05:15 PM
most people stay to the phase 2 allowed foods for several days.. to let weight stablize a bit then will add only 1 new food item ... then watch the scale to see if it stays the same.. if it has no negative affect then they will eat it again and do the same .. if you continue to use the new food with no problems with gains.. then they add another new food item and repeat the proceedure..
anytime there is a gain after a new food added stop using the food and wait several days to try it again once you get weight back down.
you will do fine

I have a question regarding my TOM.

I am on injection hCG for the 43 day course. Today is R1P2D9 for me. I am expecting my TOM around D23. I know I am to stop my injections when I start. If I stop injections on Days 23, 24, 25 and continue eating VLCD, then I resume injections when I am done with my TOM on day 26, would I be resuming on the 26th day? Or would I be resuming on Day 23 so to speak, and extend my injections the length of my TOM days that I skipped?

Thanks for your help, very confused about this!

You must not be following the original protocol from Pounds and Inches by Dr. Simeons because broccoli, green beans, zuchini, peaches, apricto and cherries on not on the approved list of allowable foods!

Hi Janie, Welcome to this forum. I am new also but I know you can't use either of those butter subsitutes. As far as body lotion goes I think as long as it does not have oil in it you are ok. Have you started your program yet? Good Luck to you if you have.

Most people on this site go by Dr. Simeon's "Pounda & Inches" which is the original book written on the HCG protocol. You can find it at www.hcgdietdirect.com/DrSimeonsProtocol.pdf. If you follow that you will be good. Is this your first day on the VLCD?

Yes.

I found this on one post about what to eat on this forum. Do you go by this? What can I eat while I'm completing the HCG protocol?

Basically I have hot tea for Bkfast, for lunch 100grams or 3.5oz of the allowed protein, 1 veggie and 1 fruit. Repeat the same for dinner. You can move your fruits around and have one for bkfast or for an afternoon snack but you can only have two of the allowed fruits per day. I drink a gallon of red zinger herb tea and some water everyday. I don't love water so I go for tea. Read the "pounds & inches" if you can, it goes into much more detail. don't hesitate to post questions if you have them. Everyone on this board is beyond helpful and very supportive. You may also want to start a jpurnal and post what you eat everyday and your losses. that's what I did. People who have been doing this for a while and have had great success read everyones Journals to help each other out. Hope that helps

Janie, hi and welcome!

No the approved lsit of foods you posted is not correct and I would not go by that list myself. For best result I personally would google "Pounds and Inches" by Dr. ATW Simeons. He is the original Dr that spent 50 yrs researching and testing what foods worked best and for best results. Any other protocol you find they have not done the research or testing and have just decided to add other foods in not knowing if they really work or not.

Good luck to you!

Thanks everyone! I am still trying to figure out how to move around the webiste / forum. I made my profile with picture and Lily tracker but it does not show? I am on day 4 and am down 3.4, I will take it. I have about 34 pounds to go, I dont know if its feasible but I am hoping to reach it by Valentines Day! I will go to the pounds and inches pdf and read it. When I bought my drops I got a manuel and the info I was going off of was in it, it dosent totally match up to what you guys are saying so I will make that adjustment, I want the most bang for my buck so to speak.

A few more questions please
Q. Does the hcg drops go "bad" I opened mine in like June used them for about 2 weeks and was traveling so much, I quit, I still have the bottle and that is what I am using.

Q. What about hair products, ex: hairspray, mouse, styling products, make up, ect?

Q. Is it realistic to lose 34 pounds in 39 days?

april
01-06-2012, 08:18 PM
yes it is realistic to lose that much, but if you don't do not get hung up on a number, you will be amazed at how different your body is with this diet, you lose a ton of inches. I am not sure about products..I think no oil..I never changed any of mine and did not see any problems. I think your drops should be ok, if you stored them in a cool place and they do not have a date on them..

I am new and still a little confused, I have read some of the pounds and inches but still have a few questions.
I am doing the drops and I have lost 8.2 pounds in 1 week!!!!!!!!!! I have 29 more pounds that I would like to lose, so I can just continue with the drops and 500 calorie till I lose a total of 34 pounds then I quit drops and do only 500 calorie diet for 3 days, then I can eat anything I want EXCEPT suger and starchs for 3 weeks monitoring my weight. Then I am done?

I guess if someone could outline phase 1, phase 2, phase 3 (I guess I am slow) ha ha I just want to make sure I am doing this exactly right. thanks so much.

I still cant figure out how to make my picture or my lily thing show when I post :(

Hey there,

I think you are close but not exactly. This is really a lifestyle change. If you are doing the drops you can stop them and eat 500 cals for two days, Then you begin to add foods in and increase the ones you are eating. I would print off the approved list of P3 foods, I taped my up and then each day I would check off what I tried and see if it effected my weight. I would things in slowly and try to get as many calories as you can close to the calories you need to maintain, which is about your weight times 11..I found about 1500 was a good goal for me. IN that P3 period of three weeks do not have any carbs or sugars. When you move to P4, you begin to add in carbs and sugars again, but do this slowly and monitor what works and what does not. You can never go back to just being able to eat the way you did...it is what got you in this place in the beginning..The point is to adopt a healthier life style with indulges once in awhile and then a way to correct those indulges.

Thank you very much, I appreciate the feedback! I was checking out recipes on some of these forums for phase 2 and I see people mixing vegtables, I read in that book to NOT mix vegtables, is that a deal breaker? Also I have read where people said eating the Melba toast you will not lose as good?

01-10-2012, 03:59 PM
Hi Janie and Welcome!

Dr. Simeons protocol says no mixing of vegi's so that is what most of us go by. Some people choose to do their own thing and some do ok with it and others don't. Same goes for the mleba some eat it and still have great losses and some eat it and stall so it is totally up to you.

IF you follow Pounds and Inches by Dr. Simeons to the T you should have great losses and great results!

You should start a journal like the rest of us have and log in daily with your daily losses and then you can get lots of support and encouragement from all the great folks on here.

Janie
01-10-2012, 04:02 PM
That sounds great. How do I do that start a journal? Support would be great my hubby is not excited about this, he is worried about the low calorie intake ect.

Janie
01-10-2012, 04:05 PM
Also what about chicken broth? Are people using that out of a can? Or can you use some of the broth if you boil your chicken? And I tend to retain water so I do not add extra salt, I use a salt substitute, is that ok?

shannon
01-10-2012, 04:06 PM
Go to Forum,HCG Weight Loss Journal and Forums and then in the upper left hand corner click on Post New Thread.

You will tons of support and encouragement. Have you let your husband read how HCG actually works and explained to him how it takes from your stored bad fat cells to create calories for your body to burn during the day and you are burning any where from 2500-4500 calories a day just from your stored fat? Some times it helps people to understand a little better if you tell them that. I have to say though I haven't come acros many outsiders that think HCG is ok and that won't have something bad to say about it so I kept it to my self and never told anyone but my best friends and some of my family.

What phase can I start walking on? Do you think the average person loses about 20 pounds on phase 2?

shannon
01-10-2012, 04:54 PM
If you always walk and have been for a long time it shouldn't hurt you to cintinue walking. They say no exercise because you aren't eating enough calories to be able to hold up and if your exercise it will depleat what you do eat and your body will go into starvation mode.

I think it is very realistic to be able to loose 20 lbs in 1 round especially if you stick to the protocol and don't cheat.

I keep telling myself its mental (mostly). AND that nothing takes as good as BEING healthy and slim feels!

so true..when I am hungry I try to drink more tea as it has some flavor in it. I also think keeping busy is a good thing also. I find that I read a lot. play on the computer etc when I am not at work..basically to kill time.

During the week is much easier, we have our own business and my kids are involved in everything under the sun, so its go go go, and hunger is not really the issue, I am probably only doing about 300 calories or so a day, (somedays I do part of a apple, and some days I do 1 melba toast, I am not doing much veggies, but I do try to get the protein in) I think its lack of taste and variety that I am fussing about with mild discomfort. :( but I do feel achy, I am going to read that section again from pounds and inches. ha ha

Janie you need to make sure you are getting your full amount of calories in no matter what though, that is so important!

Also I am not sleeping well, maybe 4-5 hours a night. I am to nervous to take something scared it will affect my weightloss efforts.

Janie..you really need to get in all the calories. I split things up. I eat an apple at 10, then lunch (protein and veggie), then about 230-3 I have an orange and then dinner at about 6, where I have a different protein and veggie. I found that if I tried to eat the fruit with my meals I was stuffed. Your body may be in starvation mode.

I am trying to get in all the calories I am breaking it up like you said, but I have started feeling yucky and weighloss has slowed down only .6 in the last 2 days.
thanks for your advice.

That is normal for it to slow down, your body can only do so much. if you read others journals you will see that.

I am on my 9th day of phase 2 and everything is going well. Down about 8 pounds. I had huge headache today and a cold so I took some advil cold and sinus. After I took it I looked it up and saw that I shouldn't because it has sugar. If I only do it this one time will all be good or am I screwed?

Hi Wonkaba and welcome!

Its hard to say if it will cause you a gain or not as everyone is different. Just stay away from it from now on and stick to protocol and you will be fine.

Hi, I'm Hannah and I'm new to this HCG. I just gave birth to my son 2 weeks ago, and I'm not planning to breast feed. During my pregnancy I've gained 50 LBS. My weight was originally 105 LBS, but now I weigh 153 LBS. I've lost all of my confidence, and my husband seems to be lacking interest in me. I am very desperate to get back into shape and was wondering if HCG injections is safe for women who just gave birth. Do I have to fully heal first before I start the HCG injections? And if I use the HCG injection before my healing then will it cause blood clotting or any other medical concerns? Please help me!!!!!

Did you do phase 3 and phase 4 and follow it strictly? If you went back to eating how you used to than yes you will gain it all back just like any other diet.

What brand of drops are you using and where did you get them from? Do the ingredients say HCG 6x, 12x, 30x, 60x? IF not then no you DO NOT have good HCG dropps and you basically were starving yourself and that would be another reason why the weight came back on.

Hi, I did the Hcg diet a few years ago. Looking to do it again. Is there someone here who can tell me the best HCG to get? And where to get it?

Thanks!
