Deal With Hunger Pains and Cravings on the HCG Diet

As you may know, dieters need to follow a strict 500-calorie-per-day diet while on the HCG diet. Studies show HCG hormone resets the hypothalamus and increases body metabolism, so the abnormal fat stored in the body could be utilized as a source of energy for daily living. In other words, you can live off of your unwanted fat when taking the daily HCG injections combined with a very low calorie diet.

500 calories per day alone seems to be too little food. Thanks to the HCG hormone, most dieters won’t experience hunger pains or cravings on the HCG diet. Some dieters might feel mildly hungry at the very beginning, but this will subside after the first week.

In order to decrease hunger pains and cravings on the HCG diet, dieters are instructed to complete the two loading days. During the first two days of HCG injections, dieters must “eat to capacity of the most fattening food they can get down” as Dr. Simeons stated in the Pounds and Inches. This will enable the body to stock enough fat reserves that are needed to jump start the body metabolism and decrease possible hungers and cravings when they start the 500-calorie-per-day diet starting from the third HCG injection.

If you feel hungry while on the HCG diet, you might want to check whether your HCG is potent. When mixed, HCG becomes highly unstable and needs to be refrigerated to keep its potency. In addition, check if your HCG dosage is appropriate. Dr. Simeons recommended a daily dose of 125 IU HCG for best weight loss result, while others including Kevin Trudeau suggest taking a 175 to 200 IU HCG injection daily instead. Taking higher dosage of HCG than the recommended amount will make you feel hungrier and even cause the diet to fail.

If you exercise and experience hunger pains or cravings while on the HCG diet, you should stop all types of strenuous exercises. As a matter of fact, Dr. Simeons clearly states NOT to exercise. The reason why you should avoid exercise on the HCG diet is because the average person burns about 3000 calories a day just in normal activity and you are only eating 500 calories a day in food so you can see how you lose the weight. Moderate exercises such as walking are allowed on the HCG diet. However if you feel hungers, you are advised not to take any exercise until your body gets used to the HCG diet protocol.

Last but not least, dieters are recommended drinking green tea in order to deal with the hungers and cravings while on HCG diet. Drink green tea as much as you can to inhibit hungers, because green tea is said to be able to suppress your appetite. You can drink it hot or cold. Stevia is another natural appetite suppressant. You can take stevia drops fifteen to twenty minutes prior to a meal, which will help decreases craving and hunger sensations. You can add Stevia to your tea or water for sweetness if desired.

    I find this diet is very difficult. This is the second time I’ve been on the HCG diet. The first was a year ago. I have a real sweet tooth and there is nothing to satisfy that craving on this diet. Also, it’s the middle of winter and a bowl of soup would be nice. I personally know that the diet does work (and I actually kept the weight off but need to lose more) but that does not currently make it any easier to stick to. Argh!

    HCG shots still yield the same effect, severe hunger pains on day 2 of Phase 2. I will try the green tea deal, don’t believe it will work but we will see. I go to the freezer and look around and my stomach just about jumps out to kick my butt! It is that hard grinding and growling sound in the center of the chest that makes you feel sick. I am in for the 40 day stretch, a lot of it has to be psychological. Nothing tastes good at all, if I look at another freaking apple or a cup of celery or tomatoes; I am going to scream. It is to the point just a few days in that I skip those calories (celery, tomatoes, apples) because the smell or sight of them makes me want to yack. It is bad enough eating shrimp, chicken, or lean hamburger meat without any real seasonings. Doc said it wouldn’t be easy, but the payoff is in the end. He also said guys do better than women on the HCG shots and VLCD. I have dropped 4 pounds two days in, we will see or as they say “time will tell”. Best of luck to all and stick to it.

    Hey guys Im new to the plan and I swear to u I am on the same boat..I loaded like crazy & still lost 4 or more pounds sat & sun.I started on a Sat.Monday was my 500 day..Its Weds an as of yesterday I have lot 13lbs already..The lady or person above is right keep our eyes on the prize.."No sacrafice no victory"….push

    I gained 0.4 lbs on the two days of loading. Having been on the paleo bandwagon for over a year, I found I just couldn't eat enough bad food without getting very sick. Today is my first 500 calorie day and I am dying. I've had a rumbling stomach all day long. If the next 40 days are going to be like this, I'm not sure I'll make it. I'm drinking gallons (literally gallons) of water and tea, but still a growling stomach. Help!

      It’s obvious you weren’t able to load enough, if you do it again later on eat a lot of fatty foods, ice cream, whole fat yogurt, avocado, load butter on your toast, etc. but for now you may have to up your dose alittle, I loaded pretty good my second time around, but I could have loaded more, I was very hungry the fourth and fifth day in, actually also the first day of the 500 calories, but when I upped the dose like from 1.50 to 1.75 for instance, then I was ok, I also watched a lot of videos online such as for encouragement and that helped a lot, by the way I have low thryroid and no gall bladder so weight loss is always difficult for me and I am 59 and menopause too. Hope it works for you, I lost 21 I lbs the first time and on my second round now and first week lost 12 lbs

    I am on my ninth day second time around first round lost 56 lbs. on this second round 9th day I have lost 13 lbs. I do not feel hungry I drink water about a cup every hour all day long. I get up and drink hot tea then do my drops wait about two hours eat a green apple at lunch i grill my chicken two cups of asparagus with half a lemon and salt dinner chicken with two cups cucumbers salt and lemon i cut the seeds off of the cucumbers. and a cup of strwberries right befor I go to bed sort of an average day for me and I love that I am loosing weight with out exersize and I am not telling others around me I am loosing or how till I am done. I love the drops this is the best thing ever when this is done I am treating myself to a cruse

    I didn't load properly! I'm starving…any tips on how to complete this diet? I have to complete the 23 days….I don't want to come out of this worse than I started. I lost 10 lbs on days 4 and 5, 5 more on day 6….I cheated on day 7 and didn't loose any weight – the hunger is getting to me.

    It is important you load properly, if you don't you'll be so hungry. Lesson learn on my part only gain 1 lb on loading. But am on day 3 and lost 4lbs not bad. Drinking hot tea helps with the hunger pains. Drink a lot of water. You could also do instead of 10 drops 3x a day do 5 drops 6 x per day

    @ Kelsey I agree with most of what you say but if you do this diet correctly and in its entirety you will learn self-control. When you learn self-control you can eat anything…IN MODERATION. Moderation has been and will always be key and the lack thereof is why we are obese as is. This of course excludes those who have sensitivities to certain types of foods.

    I think it is important to realize that just like any other diet.. If you follow the plan, the weight loss will follow. However, if you go back to eating the thing of your past that caused you to gain weight- you will gain again. This is my second round of hcg. The diet itself is the easy part. Following 3 days of the 500 calorie diet without the drops is difficult and the next phase is also difficult. You can start adding fats back into the diet (no sugar or starch) but because you haven't had fat in a long time it's quite easy to over consume or to eat more than one new thing pet day. This is not recommended as you will not be able to easily identify which item or items made you gain. Another important thing is to make sure that you are NEVER away from your scale. Weight yourself every morning and literally, the morning that you are up two pounds you must perform a steak, egg, apple or high protein day. The goal is to reset your new weight and as hard as it may be, you have to lose the weight that you are putting on. The longer you ignore this the easier it becomes to gain. And truly you will not be able to go back to donuts and sugars and flour etc after the diet and not gain weight. Over the holidays I put on pounds quite easily as I dove into cookies. Sugar and flour are the enemy when it comes to losing weight or keeping it off. They are addictive, they make you crave them and no amount is ever enough. Also once you make one mistake it is quiet easy to make another. For this to work you need to be 100% honest with yourself and your body and accept the fact that there are foods that you will not be able to eat again without experiencing a "relapse." good luck to all!

    I am on day 7 of HCG and after the load, i gained 4.2 lbs. The day after my first day of dieting, i was down 5.8 lbs. The next day down another 4.8. I didn't lose any on today's weigh in. Bummed. I am down 10.6 pounds in 4 days of dieting. I am scared of cheating. I am hungry enough to a whole cow. I want to do a steak day just so that I can have a big steak. Where does everyone start counting to get their average per day loss? At the start of the HCG or when they start the 500 cal/day diet?

    I could eat my arm, BUT 7 pounds off in 7 days. It is a simple diet, but it is not an easy diet. Just as painful as regular one, BUT I am finished in 3 weeks vs 3 months. Keep your eye on the prize.

    this is day three of the diet and i have a cold. i'm hungry to kill. i want a bucket of kfc and a wheel barrow of doughnuts and some burgers and a strawberry milk shake made with heavy cream and real sugar. help me please. i haven't cheated on the diet but i'm fantasising about food in the same way people fantasize about sex

      I just started today. I only gained 3.2 lbs loading for 2 days. Now I wonder if it was enough. First day and I am starting out hungrier than I normally am at this time of day. Can you tell me how you have been doing? Only a few hours into it and I am already questioning if I can stick with it.
