So you may wonder what is HCG and what is HCG Diet? HCG stands for Human Chorionic Gonaditrophin, a natural water-based hormone present in both men and women, although it is produced in great amounts in pregnant females. In non-pregnant persons, research suggests HCG similarly increases the metabolism similar to a pregnant female, causing unwanted fat are released by the body.

The use of HCG for weight loss was first discovered by the famed British Physician, Dr. A. T. W. Simeons back in 1954. Throughout his research, Dr. Simeons noticed his patients didn’t have the common symptoms from a very low-calorie diet, such as hunger pains, weakness, or irritability, as long as the diet was combined with HCG treatment. His patients lost significant amounts of weight without exercise with the HCG Diet program, which leading him to discover how patients lost more unwanted fat tissue, regulated their metabolism and corrected which initially caused their obesity.

Dr. Simeons’ original HCG weight loss protocol consists of a very low calorie diet accompanied by HCG treatments (oral HCG or HCG injections). HCG dieter usually experiences weight loss averaging 1 to 2 pounds per day.

Here is a quick overview of Dr. Simeons’ original HCG weight loss protocol (Read more about Dr. Simeon’s original 500-calorie diet here):

  • 125 IU of HCG per day (with the exception of menstruation)
  • Before taking the 3rd HCG injection, patient should eat high-calorie foods excessively
  • Following the 3rd injection, a 500 very low-calorie diet and personal care product restrictions are applied and continue through 72 hours after the last injection.
  • In the following 3 weeks, all foods are allowed except sugar and starch
  • After the 3 weeks, starches are allowed in very small quantities

Dr. Simeons concluded that there are three different types of fat stored in the body: Structural Fat, Normal Fat and Abnormal Fat (won’t be used by the metabolism until the previous two kinds of fat are depleted). Diets don’t normally work for Abnormal Fat, because diets will burn the wrong kind of fat Structural Fat and Normal Fat before releasing the unwanted Abnormal Fat. Only with the use of HCG treatments, the metabolic level will be adjusted in order to burn the Abnormal Fat.

In the meantime, a very low fat VLCD is needed in order to keep body from immediately taking in more fat and replenish the body’s Abnormal fat. In additon, dieters are not allowed to use personal care products such as lotions that contains animal fat. Without HCG treatments, dieters will normally feel hungry and weak, which cause dieters to easily give up and eat excessively causing thousands of extra calories taken to the body and preventing Abnormal Fat being futher metabolized. With the help of HCG injections or oral HCG, dieters won’t feel the common hunger pangs, making sticking to the very low-calories diet much easier.
